Statement

I understand musical form as a living architecture. A work may begin with the rhythm of a sentence, the memory of a colour, a physical gesture at the piano, or a visual image whose internal motion can be translated into sound.

About

About Artūrs Rasa

Artūrs Rasa is a Latvian composer and pianist whose work grows from a close relationship between musical structure, spoken rhythm, memory, and visual imagination.

His music moves between tonal resonance, concentrated motivic development, layered vocal textures, and a strong sense of dramatic form. Trained as a classical pianist, he approaches composition from inside the physical and expressive nature of performance. His catalogue includes works for piano, chamber ensembles, voices, choir, film, and stage.

Selected earlier scores and recordings are credited to Artūrs Liepiņš, the composer’s current legal name.
