Arbeloss

String quartet2012

Programme note

Arbeloss takes its title from the arbelos, a geometric figure formed by three mutually tangent semicircles. Its texture moves between sustained sonorities, pizzicato and Bartók pizzicato, glissandi, symmetrical rhythmic patterns, recurring intervallic cells, and sharply contrasted tempo regions. The portfolio presents Arbeloss on its own, not the complete first quartet.
