Programme note

Written during Artūrs Rasa’s studies in Oslo, Piano Sonata No. 1 was performed as part of his 2020 final examination programme at the Barratt Due Institute of Music. Rhythmically concentrated passages are placed against more spacious and lyrical fields, allowing form to emerge through physical gesture, accumulation, memory, tension, and release.
